So ready to go!

Ready to go!

I am at Scout & Frodo. A famous Trailangel couple who hosts PCT hikers. They have put up 3 big tents in their garden, each sleeps 6 hikers, they cook for us and drive all of us to the Southern Monument in Campo tomorrow.

Scout and Frodo are truly inspiring people… And they have such a love for the PCT. We are all super nervous and do last minute pack shakedowns, in the hope we can leave a few more grams behind.

At 9 pm, everybody is in their sleeping bag already, trying to get some sleep, as we need to get up at 4.45 tomorrow.

Today is the day, we are ready to be driven down to Campo! Oh my God, it is getting real!

OH MY GOD!!

After an hours drive we arrive at the Mexican Border! Holy shit, there it is!

The Southern PCT Terminus!

I am overwhelmed!

After the mandatory portrait shoot at the monument, everybody is pretty keen to hit the trail!

All right folks: I AM NOW OFFICIALLY HIKING THE PCT!

The first two hours go well, it’s not too hot yet, and it is actually pretty damn beautiful here!

It is getting really hot now.

Aha, this is what they mean when they say how hard it is to hike in the desert!

I am trotting along, the path is beautiful, there is nothing to worry about! Until I almost step on my first rattler! Oh my God, that thing scared me to death!! (But I have the impression that I scared the thing too, as he was rattling his tail like a World Champion!).

Do you folks out there have any idea how loud they rattle! I did not – but I sure do now!!

After 15 miles we decide to call it a day. Our little group cooks little dinners (mashed potatoes for me!) on our little stoves. A couples of hikers pass us who tell us they have seen a Tarantula Spider thingy… Yup, they have ’em here…

And nope, I do not plan to see one…..

Tent is pitched at Hauser Creek, we are calling it a day!

Learning of the day:

So far I can say: I love the PCT!

Congratulations! You’ve made it to the start and finished the first day – without injuries. You are now officially a PCT hiker.

Maybe I’ll see you out there one day. My flight is in a week’s time.

Heidi! Very happy to see your first pictures and to read your first sounding positive sentences on your first steps … how were the nights, did you sleep well? What about the noises around your tent? A big hug, Barbara.

Hi Barbara! The nights are excellent so far! Not that I sleep much, but there were no scarry noises so far! The wind blows every evening, so I make sure the tent is secured well!

Wow. Hihi. Das wär ja was für mich.
Danke für die “leftovers”. ;-) Liebe Grüsse aus Basel
    Christine
