Field Testing and Good Karma

Line

Today, I am going to field test two new sexy gear items:

I will pitch the new lightweight (!) tent in the backyard and cook lunch with my new lightweight (!) stove.

Here we go; the Big Agnes Copper Spur UL 1 Mountain Glow* is pitched.

The pitching takes me 8 minutes.
Deciding and reviewing which tent I will buy took me somewhat five weeks!

The tent weights 1100 gram. Looks great. Feels great. Love it.
I am not going to sleep in it tonight though; it is way too cold outside. (I am not quite that outdoorsy – yet).

I take my pack and boots and new stove and trudge around Lake Brienz. Freezing cold down here and no sun.
But no people either. Nice!

Aha, hunger kicks in. Great! Time to test my stove then.

It is the Jetboil MiniMo.

Super cute, heh.

It comes with a stand, but I purchased the wrong gas container which does not fit into the stand.
(A learning here!).

With a bit of a wobbly stove I cook lunch. Or rather, I boil water and soak my noodles in it…
Seems this is what I am going to eat on the PCT…

Uhm, well. The PCT is about hiking and nature and stuff, and not about eating well. Right?!…

Wasn’t so bad. I guzzled it all. Even though it looked rather worse than on the package.

Good Karma:

On my way home in the car, I see two hitch-hikers. Isabel and André. I pick em up and drive em a few extra km.
They want to pay me something for the fuel, but I thankfully turn down the offer. I explain that I need credit in my Karma account,
as I will need to do a lot of hitch-hiking myself soon. This gives them a laugh.

The couple are hikers too, so we talk about blisters. (Of course!).
Isabel takes off one of her boots and shows me something incredibly nice which I have never seen before.

She is wearing “Ankle Booties”.

She claims that these things are directly sent from heaven. She apparently can now hike blister free!

Giving and taking. All about Karma, I swear!

*I will talk more about the “Mountain Glow” in another post.

Learning of the day:

Don’t go hiking without good Karma in your account.
